We are AZURE RIVER, a group of theatre artists who came together to collectively create a play about Jiang Qing, known in the West as Madam Mao.

 

Madam Mao was originally conceived by Paul Thompson and Janet Lo. It was created collectively, through improvisation, by Paul Thompson, Janet Lo, Samantha Wan and Severn Thompson. Musician Heidi Chan created the score while jamming with the cast in rehearsals and joins them live onstage.

 

AZURE RIVER was the 2013/14 Artists in Residence for fu-GEN Asian-Canadian Theatre Company.
